1 in 6 men were sexually abused before the age of 181

There are more than 42 million adult survivors of child sexual abuse in the U.S.

73% of child victims do not tell anyone about the abuse for at least a year.

45% of victims do not tell anyone for at least 5 years. Some never disclose.2

Men who’ve experienced abuse are at a much greater risk than those who haven’t for serious mental health problems, including:

  • Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and depression3
  • Alcoholism and drug abuse4
  • Suicidal thought and suicide attempts5
  • Problems in intimate relationships6
  • Underachievement at school and work7

 

DATING VIOLENCE

Approximately 1 in 3 adolescent girls in the US is a victim of physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a partner.8

Nearly 1 in 10 high school students (8.9%) has been hit, slapped or physically hurt on purpose by a boyfriend or girlfriend.9

 

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Every 9 seconds, a women is assaulted or beaten in the US.10

Boys who witness domestic violence are TWICE as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults.11
